In 1940 a group of men from the Reformed and Christian Reformed churches met to discuss the possibility of an “old people’s home.” In July of 1946, the Christian Home, Inc. not-for-profit corp. formed. Originally planned to be located where Waupun Memorial Hospital stands, construction began the fall of 1953 at its present location, 331 Bly Street. The building was completed by July 1, 1954 and opened strictly as a home for the aged with 18 beds.
Through the years, the facility was expanded to better serve the needs of the community. In 1956, a “central wing”, containing 10 more beds was added and in 1964 an Infirmary section was added for those residents needing nursing care. Today, the Christian Home & Rehabilitation Center skilled nursing facility is licensed and operates 64 beds.
Recognizing the need to promote the highest level of independence in older adults, a 4-apartment section was added in 1966 adjacent to the skilled nursing facility. In 1991, 20 additional apartments were constructed and the retirement complex became known as the Christian Living Center, a registered assisted living facility.
In 2001 the Christian Homestead and Marie’s (Adult Day Care) Place opened off campus at 1001 W. Brown St. in Waupun. The Homestead is an 18-bed community based residential facility specializing in memory care.
